Croyde Bay Surfboards
Croyde Bay Surfboards 7'4" Custom Fibreglass Big Boy.
We've had a 7'4 Custom Bigboy exactly like this in our "Custom Hire Fleet" for about 10 years now... from the time before they were actually called "Bigboys"!
It's a knackered old dog now... but still surfing and still as popular as ever! We still getting people asking for it, trying to buy it and failing that, actually measuring it up in order to get one made the same! This was the board that prompted us to start our own label. (The original one needs replacing!).
The reason that this design has proved so popular is that this is "The Missing Link". The Mini-mal/Shortboard Hybrid. Simply put... (we don't do BS)... The centre section is pretty generous (Mini-mal-ish) but the nose and tail are pulled in more lIke a Shortboard. RESULT... It's pretty much as easy to ride as a Mini-mal but it turns more like a Shortboard...but here's the big news.. YOU CAN DUCK-DIVE IT.
Yep, Mini-mals are great boards but trying to get them "out-the-back" thru lines of white-water is pretty difficult because the nose is too wide to easily push under the waves. This board makes that possible, we've even occassionally been known to refer to this board in the shop, as the "Mini-mal that you can duck-dive" (poetic license!)
We actually like to call this a "Very Big Boy" on account that most Big Boy (or Fat Boy) boards on the market seem to be 6'8" to 7'2". We've gone for 7'4" because that is what our customers have given us the best feedback on. That said, we did have a 7'2" Fat Boy Flyer that was so popular somebody stole it!
This type of board also suits the bigger surfer who wants a shortboard style board -
